Our Skate School course runs in line with the nationally accredited Aussie Skate program to get you on your pathway to becoming a competitive figure skater. Even if you have some experience with Ice Skating we prefer new members to be assessed through our Skate School program, this is also a great way to meet some of our In-House Figure Skating Coaches. And if you’ve completed a Free Skate level in Skate School and you’re ready to progress your learning come to a Figure Skating Practice Session.

NEW TO FIGURE SKATING?
Whether you’ve completed your Aussie Skate Free Skate 4 level and are working through ISA (Ice Skating Australia) testing or you want some extra practice away from the crowds of Public Skate to work on your technique and skills, Figure Skating Practice Sessions are dedicated sessions to assist you with your learning.
NEW TO SKATING?
If you’re interested in becoming a Figure Skater but haven’t mastered all the elements of skating, Skate School will get you on your way to Figure Skating one day. Whether you’re a complete beginner or you have some experience, there’s a level for everyone in Skate School. This is also a great way to work with some of our In-House Figure Skating Coaches.
WANT TO TAKE PRIVATE LESSONS?
Perhaps you’re stuck on a skill, want to accelerate your learning, or like the accountability of a professional to help you, Figure Skating Practice Sessions are where you can engage Private Figure Skating Coaches for lessons for all ages ranging from 15-60 minutes.
When you take private lessons you pay for your own access to the session, and you pay your coach directly for the lesson.
WANT TO COACH AT THE ICE ARENA?
The Ice ArenA offers a variety of coaching options for Figure Skating coaches, from Visitor Coaching Permits for traveling coaches, Temporary Coaching Permits for those staying a little longer, to our limited In-House Coaching Permits.
There is an application process and not all applications are guaranteed a permit. Please read the information provided and send an enquiry with details of your application.
FIGURE SKATING PRACTICE SESSIONS
Figure Skating Practice Sessions are exclusive times put aside for figure skaters to take private lessons with their coaches and practice their elements and routines for testing and competitions. While skaters will pay for access to the session, they pay their coaches directly for lessons.

The Ice ArenA runs regular Figure Skating Practice Sessions throughout the year to practice your skills and work on your routines. Check out our current Figure Skating Practice Schedule below.
Please note that Public Holidays and End of Year may affect these sessions, details will be advertised on social media.
REQUIREMENTS
Figure Skating Practice Sessions are open to:
- Skate School Students in Level 5&6 and above
- Skaters are restricted to the Medium & Small Ice
- Skaters taking Private Lessons
BOOKINGS
Our Practice Sessions require no advanced reservation and entry is first-come-first-serve. Make sure you arrive early for your session as there are limited spaces. Make sure to check in at Reception before stepping on the ice.

AM CLUB
For our 18+ & Senior Skaters at Bronze level or lower and preferring a more relaxed or recreational Figure SKating session, we provide AM Club twice a week. Figure skaters with Silver level and above, and skaters under 18 years are not permitted at these sessions.
PRICING & MEMBERSHIPS
The Ice ArenA offers a variety of Passes and Memberships to suit your training schedule. Passes and Memberships can be purchased at Reception.
All Passes and Memberships activate from the time of purchase. Single Session entry is valid at the time of purchase only, you are not able to pre-purchase these for use at another time. 1 Week Passes and Memberships include unlimited entry to Figure Skating Practice Sessions for the duration of the Pass/Membership.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
All Figure Skating Practice sessions held on Public Holidays cost a flat-rate fee of $25.00 per session for both skaters and coaches. This fee is payable online only. Weekly Passes and Memberships are not eligible for these sessions.
SKATE SCHOOL STUDENTS
Skate School Students who have passed Skate School 5&6 are welcome to attend Figure Skating Practice Sessions and are limited to the Medium or Small Ice only as the Large Ice is reserved for private lessons and skaters running programs.
Current Skate School Students can use their complimentary passes received with enrolment to attend Figure Skating Practice Sessions.
VIRTUAL COACHING
From July 25th 2022 the Ice ArenA is trialing Virtual Sessions for Students with Virtual Coaching lessons. These are limited to designated sessions on the Medium Ice Rink only and the student will be responsible for covering the Coach’s $25 ‘Visiting Coach’ Fee on top of their own entry cost.
For safety, Virtual Coaching Sessions are capped at 4 Students and each Student must wear a fluoro yellow vest, remain within their quarter of the ice rink as much as possible, and may only wear one headphone or earbud.
Information will be displayed during the Sessions on the big screen and more info can be obtained by visiting, calling, or emailing Reception.

Figure Skating Private Coaching
Whether you’ve finished Aussie Skate Free Skate 4 and are beginning your ISA testing, wanting to compete in the sport and become a professional athlete, become a professional ice dancer and performer, or you’re looking for extra tuition to speed up your learning at any stage, The Ice ArenA’s In-House Figure Skating Coaches offer private lessons for all ages.
When you take private lessons you pay your coach directly.

We ensure that our In-House Figure Skating Coaches include a variety of specialisations for our skaters.
ACCREDITATION & INSURANCE
All Figure Skating Coaches working at The Ice ArenA are accredited and registered with APSA (Australian Professional Skaters’ Association). Coaches must also hold current Working With Children Checks and Senior First Aid as well as remain covered with professional and business insurance.
Additionally, some of our coaches hold accreditation for overhead or pole harness instruction, key in learning to perform jumps safely.
Please ensure you check the APSA website for the latest qualification level held by a coach you are interested in working with.
ORGANISING PRIVATE COACHING
CHOOSE A COACH
If you’ve been skating your way through Skate School, you would have been taught by some of our In-House Figure Skating Coaches. You can approach the coach whose training style suits you best and enquire about their availability for private lessons.
Alternatively, you can directly contact a coach you’d be interested in working with and enquire about their availability to take on new students.
If you are a proficient figure skater already and new to Adelaide or The Ice ArenA, we recommend chatting with our Head of Skate School & Figure Skating, Deb Barrett about suitable options for you and to meet some of our coaches.
PURCHASE A FIGURE SKATING PASS OR MEMBERSHIP
Choose from a Single Session entry or 10x Session Pass. Single Session entry must be purchased prior to the session before getting on the ice. A 10x Session Pass will give you access to any Figure Skating Practice Session up to 10 sessions for the 3 month validity period. 10x Session Passes cannot be used at Public Holiday sessions.

By purchasing entry to the Figure Skating Practice Session you are agreeing to all The Ice ArenA Code of Conduct and Conditions of Entry, General Terms & Conditions including the Assumption of Risk, as well as the Figure Skating Etiquette & Rules. These can be found on the Terms & Conditions page.

PRIVATE COACHING PERMITS
To provide private lessons, Coaches operate as sole-traders or businesses with The Ice ArenA venue. The Ice ArenA’s commitment is to developing Ice Sports in Adelaide and we want to ensure the best experience and outcomes for our students, coaches and community, therefore, we have a rigorous review process to allocate In-House Figure Coach permits. In-House Coaching Permits are, therefore, provided by invitation only.
TEMPORARY COACHING PERMITS
If you are new to The Ice ArenA and wish to coach for a short period or are looking to become an In-House Figure Coach, we recommend a Temporary Coaching Permit. This is a great opportunity to spend some time in our community to see if it would be a great fit for both parties.
VISITOR COACHING PERMITS
Perhaps you are already working with some of our skaters, or maybe you like to offer specialist instruction as you travel from rink to rink. This is exactly what our Visitor Coaching Permit is for. The Ice ArenA works closely with SAISA as well as our local clubs to assist with organising workshops and events, otherwise you are also welcome to use the enquiry form to reach out about your proposed training event.
FIGURE SKATING COMPETITIONS
The Ice ArenA will do its best to list out all relevant Figure Skating competitions, however, for more complete information we recommend visiting South Australian Ice Skating Association, Ice Skating Australia, and the figure skating club websites including SilverBlades FSC, Adelaide Edge FSC, and South Australian Synchronized ISC.
